Women of every age are invited to events where they will need to find a beautiful gown to wear. As women get older the choices they have when shopping for gowns can become narrower as a lot of gowns are made with a younger age group in mind and the gowns targeted towards an older group of woman may be very boring and not exactly fashionable. Not every older woman wants something plain and conservative. Just because your age goes up does not mean your sense of style and ability to wear what you want disappears. No matter your age, most women want to look nice and on trend and as you get older you want to accomplish this without looking like you are pushing what is age appropriate.
Modern Gowns wide selection of gowns has pieces to accommodate all ages. As an older woman looking for a gown there is certain criteria to look for in a dress. You want to make sure the gown offers enough support for the bust, midsection and for your hips and bottom. It is no surprise as you get older it becomes more important for clothes to help parts stay where they are supposed to be and it should be no exception with a gown you are choosing to wear. Also you want to make sure you are not revealing too much skin. While you can still look sexy and want to bare some skin, too much skin is not appropriate after a certain age. Choose a section that you would like to bare like shoulders, chest, arms or legs, not both. If you love your arms and neck, why not opt for a strapless corset gown with a lot of support and a higher neckline. A sweetheart neckline may not be the right choice for you as it can be too revealing. A straight
across neckline is a much better cut as it is still exposing skin and sexy without revealing too much. A corset top is good because it has inner wiring and gives you lots of support and structure. If you prefer to cover your arms but love your legs, why not choose a cap sleeve knee-length dress. Anything above the knee is not appropriate. A cap sleeve gown does not need to be dated but a chiffon gown with a sheer overlay and sheer ruffles over the sleeves is pretty, elegant and covers skin without being too doughty. As for colors, really any color goes.
Color is always appropriate no matter what age you are. Black is always slimming and for a special occasion it is always appropriate. When in doubt choose a black gown. As for other colors such as red, blue, purple, or green all these colors in the right shade can be very pretty and make a dress even more festive and fun for your event. Yellow as you get older may be a color you want to avoid unless you have a darker or tan complexion. When it comes to extra details on your gown, less is more as you get older. A fully covered beaded gown or a gown with sequins is probably not the right choice for you. However, if you want to incorporate a little glam into your look find a gown with small glitzy accents like a broach at the waist, neckline or small beaded embroidery.
Style is fashionable at any age and that is no exception for designer and special occasion gowns. No matter your age you should look and feel beautiful and have choices of gowns that you love. Just make sure not to choose any dresses that you think will make you look younger. No matter your age, embrace it and be happy with where you are in your life. Use your gown to enhance your looks not try to change it.
