Did you know that there is scientific evidence that all women have one breast that is larger than the other? It's not the one you would think either. It is the opposite dominance side that is larger. So, if you are right handed it would be your left breast that is larger and vice versa. This could explain why it is so difficult to find a bra that fits perfectly. In recent years some bra manufacturers have developed the half size bra to help those of us who fall between the letter sizes, such as a C1/2 for those who fall between the traditional C and D cup sizes. If they can do that, why not create a bra that addresses the one larger breast issue?

Why is the least dominant breast the larger breast? Studies say it is due to there being more fatty tissue in the less dominant side creating more mass. That would explain why it seems that even the supposed correct sized bra always seems to fit better on one side than the other. One breast always seems to have a little more top bulge than the other side does. Or, the underwire always seems to poke a little more on one side than the other.

With science backing this theory up, and all the new fabrics and bra styles, it seems like manufacturers would have caught on to this problem and developed a bra that addresses this issue by now. Technology has brought the bra a long way from the original handkerchief and ribbon prototype or its predecessor the whale boned corset. It still h
as further to go however. Imagine a bra that is customized to your dominance. If you are right handed, you could go into a lingerie store or look on line for a "right-handed" bra that would have a slightly larger left cup. To take that further, there could be a "right-handed" half size cup, for those who fall between sizes. It would be like a perfectly fitting bra utopia. A woman could find a bra that actually fits, with no bulging, slipping or uncomfortable poking and pinching. This process of a "left-handed" or "right-handed" bra might sound confusing at first. But, if you think of your last visit to the lingerie department and how it made your head spin looking at all the styles and sizes which don't fit properly, it wouldn't be any worse to have these sizes added to the mix. At least with dominance focused sizing, you would get a bra that fits properly and comfortably.

The concept of dominance focused sizing in bras may seem silly at first. However, it is no more unusual than a dominance focused baseball mitt, or shoes that are designed to fit either the left foot or the right foot. We all know that we have one foot larger, one hand larger, and that we tend to have a preference as to using one side more prevalently than the other. Fifty years ago, left-handed people were considered to be unusual and were encouraged to use their right hand. Now, there are left-handed options to everything. The time has come to acknowledge the larger breast issue and create dominance focused sizing in bras to give women the correct, comfortable fit that they deserve.
