What is told in breast augmentation stories is dependent on the patient's expectations and experiences with the procedure, their surgeon, and their recovery. The time and energy spent finding a specialist, the pain and discomfort of the enlargement, and the follow-up requirements of the implants may all make for a negative narrative. Usually those who knew upfront what to expect were more prepared to appreciate their individual outcome and enjoy their new chest.

What Is Augmentation Mammaplasty

The procedure involves the insertion of implants either behind the pectoral muscle or behind the glandular tissue of the mammaries. Often done for cosmetic reasons, the technique can also be used for reconstruction in women who received mastectomies due to cancer, disease, or birth defects, and is sometimes done in men as pectoral implants. An incision is made usually along the underside of the breast to insert either saline or silicone in plastic pouches.

What Patients Endured While Recovering From Surgery

Recovering from the operation consisted of soreness and swelling which most likely persisted for several days. Reduced activity was necessary and they had to refrain from exercise. After a standard post-surgical hospital stay of 24-48 hours they had to wear compression garments and surgical wraps or bras for six weeks. Drains may have been inserted to reduce swelling and help the healing process. Also there may have been bruising that required ice packs. They most likely had scarring that began to diminish in the first year.

In the long term there is a potential for the loss of nipple or breast sensation and wrinkling of the skin may occur at the top of the chest. Also, scar tissue may form around the implant leading to a hardening of the breast. The individual will most likely undergo secondary surgeries and visit their surgeon often to assess the integrity of the implants. Eventually the implants will need to be removed or replaced as they are not meant to be permanent. Pregnancy and weight fluctuations can alter the outcome of the surgery as well and many people may find that a topic of discussion.

Risks That Some Surgical Recipients Endure

A famous music star's mother died during plastic surgery and the world was stunned. However, this is just an indicator of some potential problems that may arise during or after a breast enlargement or nay other surgery. Not all patients respond to or recover from anesthesia in the same manner. Waking up in the recovery room may be difficult for some and there may be breathing problems in a small proportion of surgical clients. Any invasive technique also carries the potential for infection and bleeding. These complications could result in poor wound healing, leading to a longer recovery time, increased scarring, and in clotting which could lead to more drastic cardiovascular and pulmonary complications. All of these possibilities lead to some fleshier than expected details in breast augmentation stories.
