Scarves and your waist. The current trend in fashion is to really emphasize the waistline.

Scarves and your waist. The current trend in fashion is to really emphasize the waistline. Many women think that because their middle section isn't ridiculously tiny they can't pull the look off. That is actually far from the truth! Adorning your waist with amazing belts and scarves can actually give the illusion that your waist is much smaller than it actually may be. Before you steer clear of this or any other fashion trend, you need to take some time to learn about what looks best on your body.

Understanding What Looks Good on Your Body Type: Very, very few women have the body of a professional model. Remember ladies-there is a reason they get paid huge sums of money and are flown all over the world. Instead of wishing you had a stick figure, take time to understand what you do have and what looks best on it. Take a look at the most common body types of regular women and think where you might fit:

Pear-Shaped: This is where you body is shaped like a triangle. Your shoulders are narrow and often slope downward. Your hips and thighs are the widest part of your body. Childbirth and the aging process naturally begin to deposit more and more padding in your hips and rear, so many, many women have this body type.

Curvy: Some women do not realize how blessed they are to have a curvy figure. Usually a curvy figure means you have the natural hourglass shape that most women would love to have. This shape means your shoulders and hips are well proportioned and your waist tapers in. Many women with this body type may have some extra pounds, but it is still a great shape to work with.

Boyish: Some women find they don't really have any curves at all. This is a body type where the shoulders, waist, and hips are all proportioned roughly equal. Many people call this a "boyish" figure or a "stick" figure. It usually is found with women who are also long and lean.

Inverted Triangle: Some women have broad shoulders and a large bust that gets smaller as you travel down the body. This is sometimes called a V-shaped figure or you may even consider yourself "top heavy". Usually this body type means your legs are thin and your hips are narrow. Many athletic women who are very toned have this shape body.

Each different body type has elements that are desirable and those that aren't. The key to understanding what you should wear is understanding which parts you want to highlight and which you want to draw attention away from. You will need to begin to understand which cuts do and don't work with your frame. You will also need to understand the illusions that color and pattern can give. Some of these illusions will help you while others will make your problem areas stand out even more.
